Black Candles, a.k.a. The Sexual Rites of the Devil, is a 1982 occult exploitation film directed by José Ramón Larraz. Larraz directed the English-set Vampyres, with its heady mix of sex and bloodletting, and this follows a similar line: Carol arrives in England to visit her sister-in-law after the death of her brother. What follows is a wild ride of debauchery, sadism and farmyard sexual deviancy.
Although released in 1982, it has the cinema style of the 1970s. Larraz reportedly disowned the film following its release. Best just to watch it and make your own mind up, but watch out for the sabre scene, guaranteed to make your eyes water.
