Whirlpool, a.k.a. She Died with Her Boots On, is the 1970 debut from Spanish auteur José Ramón Larraz. Larraz is notable for his bizarre plotting and nudity, and this is no exception. Like his other films, Vampyres and Black Candles, it is set in the English countryside.
The plot centres on the fruity goings-on of Aunt Sarah and nephew Theo as they invite aspiring model Tulia to their home for a weekend to build on her photo portfolio. What follows is a series of escalating sexual games involving strip card games, sexual assault, voyeurism and threesome sex between Sarah, Theo and Tulia. This is underpinned by a police investigation into a missing girl, Rhonda, who had previously been a guest of the kinky aunt and nephew. Tulia finds photos that show Rhonda to have been murdered during a photo shoot in the woods, and is destined to suffer the same fate when Theo discovers her with the incriminating pictures.
A truly international project: a Danish production, set in England, directed by a Spaniard, with a great soundtrack by Italian genius Stelvio Cipriani.
