2019: After the Fall of New York manages to combine elements of Mad Max, Escape from New York and Planet of the Apes. The year is 2019, of course, 20 years after the nuclear holocaust. Michael Sopkiw plays mercenary Parsifal, assigned to bringing the only fertile woman back to Alaska, where the good guys are going to repopulate the human race from space. Oliver Onions provide the Jan Hammer-esque, Fairlight-heavy soundtrack that wheels through the film without taking a break to take stock of the absurdity of the plot.
Both films are bookmarks in the history of Italian exploitation cinema, freely borrowing not just from the big studio films but also from Castellari’s Bronx Warriors and The New Barbarians.
