The Fox with the Velvet Tail (1971) is a giallo in style, but without the usual stalk and slash, and with lashings of twists and turns. Directed by Jose Maria Forque.
A Spanish/Italian production, it has a sharp visual eye, and the eye features from the first frame and is artfully used to emphasise the tension. The nefarious affairs play out at the sun-drenched villa as the players plot and execute their plans.
Soft-focus eroticism adds rather than distracts, although the love scene with Jean Sorel hanging upside down and topless from a tree is certainly a first for me.
With only one person killed in the entire film, this is more psychological than brutal, but is a decent addition to the list of Euro thrillers under my viewing belt.
