Red Rings of Fear

Red Rings of Fear sits somewhere in the sphere of giallo but is more of a police procedural, if the police is a cop who literally kidnaps a witness to force him onto a rollercoaster to get information out of him. Fabio Testi is such a cop, with two cats and a kleptomaniac girlfriend.

Elements of exploitation are not too far away, with frontal nudity from the girls who attend the exclusive Catholic school, orgies involving penetration by dildo, abortion and death by curling tongs.

Alberto Negrin directs with a degree of flair and doesn’t linger on giving time to unpick the plot. A great main title by soundtrack supremo Riz Ortolani is used to maximum effect, and other elements of musique concrete and avant jazz all contribute well.

Definitely one to check out for fans of Italian thrillers.
