What's Up Nurse!

British sex comedies get a harsh rap for their dismal entendres and poor execution. Derek Ford’s What’s Up Nurse! (1977) is no exception to the rule.
A young doctor joins a seaside hospital where he is only the second doctor to work there. There appear to have been cuts in the National Health Service from as long ago as the mid 70s. He encounters a woman on a train who can only get aroused when on a moving vehicle, an amorous landlady who wastes no time undressing the doctor on her yacht, and a group of naked women playing ball games in a muddy field. More nudity follows, including a stripping nurse who is drugged with an aphrodisiac, and a woman with a chest complaint who goes topless for the scene.
The humour is generally harmless but veers towards homophobia and racism, as only British 70s comedy felt was necessary to get a cheap laugh. There is a sequel, What’s Up Superdoc!, so watch this space.
